Introduction :
The State Institute for Rehabilitation, Training and Research (SIRTAR) has been set up as an autonomous body under the Society Registration Act, 1860 and has been functioning directly under the administrative control of Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Govt. of Haryana with the objectives to provide educational as well as rehabilitation services to persons with special needs for their mainstreaming in the society, to develop trained man power in the field of disability and to undertake research in the field of Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism & Multiple Disabilities.
The SIRTAR was formally inaugurated on 04th January 2009 by Smt. Asha Hooda Hon’able. Deputy Chairperson, Haryana State Child Welfare Council in the presence of Smt. Kartar Devi Hon’able then Health Minister, Govt. of Haryana & Sh. Deepender Singh Hooda, Hon’able Member of Parliament, Rohtak. Institute is managed by a Governing Body comprising of eminent and renowned professionals, experts headed by Minister In charge, Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of Haryana. Monitoring and Review Committee headed by the Director, Social Justice & Empowerment and Managing Committee chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Rohtak Division have been constituted for day to day management of the institute. Experts from PGIMS, Rohtak and Health Department are active members of this Committee.
The Institute is headed by a Director, professionally qualified and having vast experience in the field of disability, Rehabilitation & Special Education. The institute has strength of 45 regular staff comprising of Principal, faculty member, Psychiatrists, Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Admn. Officer, Librarian, qualified Special Educators and other supporting staff. Institute has its own splendid building with spacious, ventilated classroom & hostel, recreational room, open space, playground spread into approx 3-acres of land in the heart of city. The existing building is completely barrier free & also having disabled friendly toilets.
